JAPANESE ZEN GARDEN A glass-enclosed Japanese Zen Garden, open to the sky, is the focal point and serene organizing element of 288 Water Street’s entrance, lobby and lounge. Inspired by dry landscape gardens known as karensansui, it aims to create a meditative state of mind in onlookers. Boulders, representing mountains, were hand-selected for their form, shape, and color from a Pennsylvania quarry, and placed in an asymmetrically balanced arrangement that is at once peaceful and dynamic. Fine gravel, representing water, surrounds the boulders and is carefully raked into ripples and waves.

LOBBY LOUNGE Ground-level lounge with kitchenette for socializing and private events. Situated right off the garden, this space offers a sense of balance, simplicity, and relationship to nature for an everyday well being.

FITNESS STUDIO The fitness studio is outfitted with top-of-the-line fitness equipment by Matrix, cardio equipment and free weights, providing residents with a dedicated space for their exercise routine just steps from their front door.

COMMON ROOF TERRACE The tranquil atmosphere and harmonious design of the lobby Zen Garden is seen again at rooftop level, where a spacious shared terrace offers spectacular panoramic views over Vinegar Hill and Lower Manhattan’s iconic skyline. A deep wildgrass border traces the periphery of the terrace, creating natural softness while sculptural Magis Spun chairs add an element of whimsy. Teakwood communal tables are perfect for outdoor dining and a large U-shaped sofa provides comfortable lounge seating. Sustainably designed barbecue grills are set within uniquely crafted stone walls inspired by the aesthetic of the Zen Garden.
